Throwing Tantrums

I threw a small...well, medium sized tantrum at God last week. It’s only in looking back that I can admit that it was a tantrum. I’ve seen (on Tv) the little kids rolling on the floor in the supermarket aisles, screaming at their parents because they aern’t being given what they want from the shelves. I suppose, from the child’s point of view, they believe their parents are not really thinking straight and don’t see how important that snack is to them, and how much they really need it. What’s totally gone from the child’s mind is that the parent really does love them above anything else, and has probably made numerous sacrifices to provide for their needs. The time is drawing nigh for my child to be born. On a tangent...yesterday was mother’s day, and I was slightly disappointed for not being recognised for the mother that I am and have been for the last 8 months. I have been protecting, and feeding my child, and sacrificing my own needs and comforts so his can be met. Was it a co...

The Lord's Doing - One Year Later

One year ago, today, I said my wedding vows and we laughed and didn't eat a drop of food. It wasn't a Monday tho :) And the more I look around and see 'so much trouble in the world', I realise that we haven't lasted a year because Mario is a great man of God nor because I've had wonderful family upbringing. It really has very little to do with who we are, because all our righteous acts will still amount to filthy rags (1) . No, this year's milestone is here because of God. I found out today about another young married couple that isn't together any more. I think about people that have gotten pregnant outside of wedlock (not always by choice) and the shame that goes along with it. I think of death robbing people of their one year anniversaries. And I think...this is really not about me or any great strength I had that kept my pants on, or kept my husband alive and faithful.  So what about the good things that I have done? It is not I, but Christ that ...

Stepford Wife?

I am a stay at home...wife. The ‘mom’ part is still pending. It wasn’t my plan to stay at home and, well, clean. At 22years old, I was the youngest vet ever to register in Jamaica at that time. My next move was to work and get financially settled, then get married and continue working. I did plan to make the unorthodox, radical move of staying at home when I got pregnant (didn’t want to take the risk of getting needle pricked with some drug that could harm my baby). This was not the norm around me, but I thought it would be the best thing for my children. But here I am...no children born yet, but I’m still at home. Initially, it was my immigration status that prevented me from working, and I gladly took up my ‘role’ of ensuring that when my husband came home from a hard day’s work, he would also see that I did a hard day’s work too: immaculate house, home cooked meal, etc. That ideal slowly dwindled as I lost interest in sparkly floors. I was bored. Was this really what God intended? I...

One Year's Worth - Recap

It's one day less than a year since my last post! My excuse? Life has been happening. And maybe it's good to give life some time to develop, so you can sit back and really take it all in, with the right view. So what's happened since Oct 25, 2010? Well, a whole lot of wedding planning, of course, to start it off. My brother's bday in Nov, then family Christmas at my house with a very pregnant sister! :D So I took a wedding planning break in February to be a good aunt. Now, we must be honest. Most babies come out looking like tiny little aliens...with oddly shaped heads and bulging eyes (something about all that pushing makes it impossible for the mothers to notice though). Somehow, Ny was the exception. She didn't look like either of her good looking parents, but she was such a sweet 'Chiney' looking zebra baby :) Another February birthday in the family. I'm sure Kam was feeling lonely before. So then March came along with Daddy's and Hubby's bda...

He liked it, so he put a ring on it :)

On September 12, 2010, Mario King asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, and I said yes. I’m often asked how I feel now that I’m engaged. From the look on their faces, they expect me to be overwhelmed with excitement and expectancy. On the contrary, I understood Mario’s proposition to enter a courtship in 2007 to be a proposition for marriage. My mind was blown away then. I questioned to myself if he understood that he was asking me to spend the rest of my life with him! I still question if he knew what he was asking then. Lol. What’s wonderfully different now is that we’re no longer alone in this journey towards marriage. My family and friends can now formally support us. Their congratulations and prayers have overwhelmed me. I didn’t know that so many people cared about us and in some cases were happy that we were finally making this move. And it’s also nice to see how Mario’s responding so much more now that the reality of ‘US’ is a lot more real. :) I’ve been ‘planning’ my...

I wanna get outta here

So the internship isn’t what they said it would be. It feels so horrible being deceived. All sins are the same, but sometimes it feels like lying is the worst of them all. They have great PR…maybe animal assisted therapy used to happen sometime in the past, but it isn’t happening now. Green Chimneys is a wonderful institution. The kids do receive great treatment and there are many success stories. So I’ve gained way more than I could have imagined being here and interacting with the kids. It’s just that I didn’t gain anything I did come here for (AAT)…and it sucks when U’ve been deceived. That’s all. And I also know now that cleaning stalls is not an enjoyable experience. Hopefully it has burned some of my excess adipose tissue  So why do I wanna get outta here? Because the kids aren’t here…the idea was that a kid would work along with us, and it would be therapeutic. But the kids are on a semi-vacation this week and next (my last weeks)…so all we interns are doing is cleaning and cle...

Sunday at Green Chimneys

I get to go in late, at 8 instead of 7:30. The day starts with the regular chores of feeding all the animals then on to the daily chores of cleaning. But on Sundays, I get to take an hour off from 10am-11am to go to the 'religious' service. They think it's important for people to 'practice' their religion, so they were more than accommodating for me to take the hour out of my regular schedule. I didn't bother to explain that my 'religion' is 'practiced' 24/7. The service is really just a non-denominational christian gathering. We sing a couple songs, contemporary stuff, then we pray around the room for those that want to then there's a Bible story. (And we get snacks at the end!)It's kinda kool watching those kids sing and praise the Lord. I wonder how much the Lord is involved in other parts of their lives. After church, I head back to work - more chores, but I pick up kids too for learn and earns. It's kool working with/around the a...
